"If your spine is inflexibly stiff at 30, you are old; if it is completely flexible at 60, you are young." - Joseph Pilates
Body Control Pilates is based on the original 'classical' exercises, created by Joseph Pilates (1880-1967), that built strength and balanced that strength with flexibility.
The Body Control method breaks down the original exercises so that you can enjoy the benefits of Pilates safely and effectively, regardless of your age and fitness level. The exercises are taught step-by-step and are based on sound movement principles that develop body awareness and control.
Many of the exercises are unique to Body Control and all are built around eight basic principles:
As you progress, the movement sequences become more complex to challenge you, building your strength and flexibility.
Can I join if I have an existing injury?
Before your first session, you will be asked to complete an enrolment form where you can give details of any injuries, medical conditions or back problems, so that I can ensure you exercise safely and work towards your goals.
It is advisable to partake in an initial 1:1 consultation before joining an existing group class so you can learn the basics. If you have a medical condition, injury, or back issue it is necessary to have a 1:1 before starting.
Do I need any equipment?
No, mats are provided. However, you can bring your own if you wish.
Can I start part way through the block?
Yes, this is possible, provided there is space. Please contact me for more information.
What should I wear?
Wear soft comfortable clothes that you can move in, but not too baggy please. Jeans and belts are not recommended as these can impede movement. Barefoot is fine or you can wear socks with non-slip soles. Normal socks are not recommended. Trainers are not required.
How big are your classes?
Classes have a maximum of 12 people so that you receive personal attention and support. Mats are provided or you can bring your own if you wish.
